Petition text:
GIA TIN YGEIA / FOR HEALTHin Amalia Kalyvinou’s memoryWE HAVE THE RIGHT TO FREE AND EFFECTIVE HEALTHCARE FOR ALL.THAT’S WHY WE DEMAND:
1. The State to take immediate action so that “fakellaki” (i.e. practice of bribery) and the inequality in patient treatment stops: improvement of healthcare practitioners' compensations, functional overtime / on-call duties and days-off (in accordance with E.U. directives), and better organization of medical services provision for both the patient and the caregivers.2. More flexible and effective bureaucratic mechanisms, in order to stop victimization due to time-consuming processes for test approvals, medication, special treatments etc. Establishment of maximum relevant requests’ handling time, compensation in the case of breaking those deadlines and informing / servicing patients who, due to the complicated nature of today’s system, never receive the compensations they are entitled to. In addition, formation of an integrated computerised healthcare system offering all hospitals and clinics online access.3. Prompt and continuous patient transfer to hospitals, proper staffing of unused hospital units, more staff wherever needed, proper infrastructure and increase in bed capacity -given the increase of healthcare needs- even if this means building new units, and the continuation of the decentralisation of medicare services.4. Increase in funds for medical research in university clinics / R & D centers, and establishment of a commission for the management of research fields, so that it doesn’t concentrate on the lucrative areas (under the pressure of pharmaceutical companies), but covers a wide range of needs instead.5. Establishment of continuous training and development for all people working in the Greek National Health System, establishment of quality controls for provided services, accreditation, assessment and reviews, in order to upgrade these services. In addition, establishment of flexible and effective mechanisms and bodies for the protection of patients’ rights and the advancement of relevant preventive measures.6. Stricter control and waste decrease in drug and hospital supplies’ market (medical tools, equipment, single-use products etc) with better computerisation, stock controls, transparency and pricing list (the equivalent of the drug pricing list).7. Establishment of a nation-wide medical record for every patient, to which both doctors and patients have access, and also very strict penalties for breach of medical confidentiality for other purposes (private insurance coverings, terms of employment etc).8. Immediate action for the rectification of the Greek National Health Insurance issue (the insurance fees increase all the time without the corresponding upgrading of medicare), and for stopping the trend that eventually will lead to the Greek National Health System commercialization and its unconditional surrender to the private sector.ENOUGH WITH BRIBING!ENOUGH WITH BUREAUCRACY!ENOUGH WITH HYPOCRISY!"Every patient has the right to being respected and maintaining his dignity."(Greek law, article 47, L.2071/1992)
